Language & Culture trip

Flight from Zurich to London and check-in at the Millennium & Copthorne Hotel right next to Chelsea Football Stadium. Short city tour and walk from Buckingham to Westminster including a guided tour as an introduction to British culture. Dinner at the hotel to get to know each other and introduction by Jason.

English classes with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): The focus is on getting to know each other, introducing and explaining personal activities and interests. In addition, Present Simple and Continuous will be repeated and practiced.

The afternoon is at leisure in London, with Jason offering a personal selection of recommendations for different interests. In the evening, the focus is on English pub culture: Jason takes the whole group on his tried-and-tested pub tour, including dinner – without a doubt one of the highlights of this language study trip!

English class with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): Today the focus is on generational change and memories of childhood. Past simple, past continuous and “used to” are studied in depth. Finally, the reading part will refer to the afternoon visits.

In the afternoon, the students will travel by coach to Oxford. This is followed by a guided tour and visit to Oxford College as well as a visit to the Ashmolean Museum to immerse oneself in the history of England. Later in the afternoon you can visit Oxford Castle or explore Oxford on your own. Dinner and overnight stay will follow at JURYS INN.

English class with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): Today it’s all about photography: describing photos with accurate vocabulary, correct prepositions and reading and discussing the dangers of digital images.

In the afternoon, the private coach will take the group to Stratford-upon-Avon in the lovely Cotswolds region, steeped in history. On route there will be a visit to Bourton-on-the-Water and the Court Barn Museum, dedicated to regional crafts. Check-in and dinner at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Stratford, where two nights will be spent.

English class with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): The focus today will be on Present Perfect Simple vs. Past Simple and related stumbling blocks. This will be based on life stories and events in combination with Shakespeare and his own story in preparation for the afternoon.

The region around Stratford-upon-Avon is rich in English history. In the afternoon, the birthplace of Shakespeare and his life will be discovered on an exciting tour. Dinner at the hotel.

English lessons with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): The focus is on the different tenses of the future and on “will”, “shall” and “going to”. The thematic breeding ground for this is the area of tension between waste, recycling, and sustainability as well as shipping as link to the afternoon programme.

In the afternoon, the private bus driver takes us to the historic shipping city of Bristol in the south-west of England. A guided walking tour follows, tracing the cultural and industrial heritage of the region and highlighting the former trading city. Dinner and four nights’ accommodation at the Double Tree by Hilton hotel in the centre of Bristol.

English lessons with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): Today, comparative and superlative are applied to the two cities of Moscow and Hong Kong. We will also learn about the coldest city in the world and British garden culture.

As a balance to the previous day’s city programme, we will go to the rural Hidcote Manor Garden this afternoon. The Hidcote Manor Garden is a 40’000 square metre English Arts & Crafts park, which reflects the pride of many English people in their garden culture. As well as the parkland, the countryside around Hidcote Manor is well worth a walk. The village of Hidcote Bartrim is charming with its traditional thatched cottages, once home to the gardeners who tended the luxurious grounds. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Bristol.

English class with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): Today its all about British and American stereotypes. How do the two cultures differ? What do they (not) appreciate about each other? Application and optimisation of the most important basic verbs as well as transition to the afternoon programme.

Besides the historical background of Bristol, the city has also established itself as a centre for street art in recent years. As the home of the famous artist Banksy, Bristol offers a lot of current and time-critical street art, which can be discovered in the afternoon under expert guidance. Afterwards, Bristol can also be explored on your own. Individual dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Bristol.

English class with Jason (08:30 to 11:45): Today’s class is about past tenses. The subject is aviation and British-American differences in this area.

In the afternoon we go to the “Venice of England”, to Bath in the southwest of England. The city is famous for its natural thermal springs, Roman baths and 18th century architecture. Bath will be discovered under expert guidance, with time also left over to do as you please or for a boat trip. In the evening, a final dinner is planned to round off the tour. Last overnight stay in Bristol.

After an intensive 10 days, the bus takes us to London airport in the morning for the return flight. With a rucksack full of new language skills and numerous impressions and experiences, the trip ends back in Zurich.
